Located at Route 15 and 206 in Augusta, Sonny’s Drive-In is the realization of a life-long dream of owner and proprietor Sonny Hansen. After working for NBC for 36 years and commuting to Long Island, Sonny retired, and now commutes 2 miles to work seven days a week.

Pull into one of the 17 car slots, turn your lights on and one of the 50 employees will zip up on four-wheel roller skates and take your order. In addition, the 20-foot overhang provides parking-service protection for you and the server in less than perfect weather. Paying great attention to details, Sonny also had the windows angled to cut the glare so passers by on the road could look inside.

Or if you don’t want the kids ‘decorating’ the interior of your custom classic with ketchup, hop out of your car and enjoy the spacious and fashionable dining room complete with booths so large they could accommodate your whole neighborhood! In the evening, the inside lights are lowered and the mirror ball is turned on for a magical and nostalgic effect.

Every three weeks, a different classic car takes center-stage in the middle of the restaurant to the enjoyment of the diners. The 130-member car club, The Wanderers, lends vintage cars to Hansen for display.

On-going attractions at the drive-in include vintage cars and cruisin’ on cruise nights, disc jockeys spinning real records, hula hoop contests for kids of all ages, sock hops, motorcycle night and much, much more.
